The sun is roughly 149.6 million kilometers away from Earth. If the sun were to turn off right now, people on Earth wouldn’t know about it for 8 minutes and 19 seconds. Those 8 minutes, as the ripples of lastlight edged towards us, would be a very sad few moments for us, despite us not knowing about the impending doom.
